The Prepared Environment:

In Montessori, each space for children is a carefully prepared environment, where the guide gives lessons to each child, and then allows the child to build on those experiences through his own exploration and mistakes. This environment is a place where a child can engage in active and intelligent experiences. You will see a different kind of child when there is a prepared environment. In Montessori, we don’t pretend to cook or use carpentry materials. We cook or build.

The Prepared Adult
Not only the space and the materials are carefully prepared, but also the adults. This must first begin with the guide, who must be trained not only in each presentation, but in careful observation, child development, and Montessori philosophy. Each guide must believe in the amazing potential of the child's capability, must let go of preconcieved notions, and have faith that the child "will reveal himself through work."
